How to Decorate a Small Patio

Happy first day of summer everyone! After a week of rain, we were finally able to soak up the sun on our newly decorated deck over the weekend!

Small Patio Before

As you can see, I didn’t really have a lot to work with, just a bland 6×10 pressure-treated surface. But after a quick trip to Walmart, I was able to create a fun (but most importantly, inexpensive) summer hangout spot.

Since it’s a seasonal outdoor space, I wanted it to be bright and colorful. I already had the green bistro set from the first year we bought the house, and I knew I wanted an outdoor rug to cover up some of the imperfections in the wood.

I suggest making a list of items you need and drawing a sketch of your space before you buy anything that way you know you have room  for all your items (or not enough!).

Mine looked a bit like this:

Rug (5×7)
Outdoor pillow
Throw (for chilly nights)
Side table
Planters (different colors/sizes)

Walmart brought in a lot of fun items this year like this black and white outdoor rug, striped outdoor pillow, floral throw and copper citronella candle.

I also found this tropical tray in the bathroom section (also great for my patio :) ) and I already had this elephant teapot which adds a little bit of whimsy.

I picked up a small side table as well to give us more room for drinks or food without cluttering up the bistro table.

All decks need a little greenery, so I picked up a few plants from their garden center and arranged them in pots with varying heights and colors for a more eclectic look.

Small spaces are awesome for experimenting with a new style, so go have fun with it!
